yyyyqqqq - 2001/11/14 14:38:00

yyyyqqqq - 2001/11/14 15:43:00

Arie - 2001/11/14 15:45:00

Intel Confidential – For Intel Internal Use Only
Windows* XP Software Update For Intel® 440MX based notebooks
Questions and Answers for Answering Questions from the Press
Prepared by Shannon Johnson, Don Larson, and Anthony Yung
November 13, 2001

Background

There have been a few news articles reporting that some notebooks will hang or experience battery life reduction while running Windows* XP.  One of the articles (appearing on the Inquirer.net website), incorrectly refers to these issues as Pentium® III processor – M issue.  The news writer might have arrived at that conclusion due to ambiguity on the Microsoft support web site (they have posted four updates that vary slightly). We are working with Microsoft to accurately update this website.

These issues apply only to running Windows XP on Intel® 440 MX based notebooks.  Intel 440MX based notebooks represent a very small percentage of new notebooks sold today and are mainly in the sub notebook segment.  There are software updates (OS driver and BIOS updates) that completely resolve these issues.  The OS driver updates are available to the public on the Microsoft support web site.  The BIOS updates are available from system manufacturers.

Key Messages
